This maybe a rookie question – but what’s bloglovin and how is it different from your blog?

It is an aggregate collector site. Kind of like the feed here on wordpress.

I’m still trying to figure out how useful it is. More or less what Bookstoge said, from what I can figure out, it’s kind of like Pinterest for blogs and you subscribe to people’s feeds.

I signed up, claimed my blog, looked around and left in 10min. For me it was just duplicating my WP experience. Other people seem to be finding it very useful though, so I suspect it really comes down to WHO you are trying to interact with.

That was pretty much my experience, too. Unless I’m missing something, I think it’s just another outlet to attract new readers for your blog.

Yep, that was my impression too. And I have enough work figuring out WP and making a home here without complicating things even more.
